Bangladesh Chemists and Druggists Association organized a protest and exchange meeting at the initiative of Tangail district branch. The protest and exchange meeting was held at the Tangail Press Club auditorium on Wednesday (September 18) morning. Tangail Municipal Councilor and City BNP President Mehdi Hasan Alim spoke as the chief guest in the meeting chaired by Abu Said Chowdhury.
Alhaj¦ Ataur Rahman Jinnah, former general secretary of Tangail district branch of Bangladesh Chemists and Druggists Association, was the main speaker on the occasion. Abu Taher Chowdhury, former vice president of the organization, Subrata Dutta, owner of Lalita Medical Hall, Nasir Uddin, owner of Iti Pharmacy and Nazmul Hossain, owner of Utsav Pharmacy, etc. spoke. The speakers in the protest meeting said that the leaders who have been in charge of the organization for the past 18 years have illegally seized power through arbitrariness without holding elections and have illegally extracted money from drug dealers and divided it among themselves. Not only that, they have also grabbed extra money from chemists in the name of pharmacist training. Also, these leaders have made a huge amount of money in the name of licensing new drugs. By defaming the name of the association, the traders have been forced to sell cheap and low-quality fake medicines by misusing their power by collecting fees from various pharmaceutical companies. Therefore, in order to solve all these inconsistencies, the present leaders and activists and valid drug license holders demanded the formation of a new committee through direct voting of valid drug license holders. In view of the said demand, a convening committee of 18 members has been formed with Abu Said Chowdhury as the head by dissolving the previous committee with the consent of all. It has been decided to form a full-fledged committee through direct voting within the next three months.
