Noakhali's isolated island Upazila Hatiya has been shut down for shipping across the country. Passengers coming to the ghat have suffered due to this. Due to adverse weather conditions due to Cyclone Remal from last Saturday afternoon, shipping communication with Hatia was announced across the country.
According to district administration sources, 466 shelters are ready to deal with disasters. Besides, eight thousand 910 volunteers of Red Crescent and CPP have been kept ready to assist the disaster victims on the coast. In addition, 16 lakh 47 thousand 500 taka, 319 tons of rice, 663 packets of baby food and 8 thousand 220 kg of cow food are stored for emergency assistance. Apart from this, the concerned officials of each upazila have been instructed to be alert. Hatia upazila executive officer Shubashish Chakma said that C-Trucks and trawlers have been stopped on various waterways in Hatia.
In the interests of the safety and security of passengers, all movement of vehicles will be stopped until further notice. Will resume when the weather is normal. 242 shelters have been prepared in Hatia.
