A nursing student has mysteriously died just three months after marrying in love in Tarash Upazila of Sirajganj. The deceased student's name is Mosha. Sumi Khatun (22). She was a third-year student of Sirajganj Nursing Institute. Police recovered her body from her in-laws' house in Rokanpur Damra village of Tarash Upazila on Sunday (October 19) afternoon.
Police and local sources said that Sumi Akhter, daughter of Rezaul Karim of Chakmirzapur village of Tarash Upazila, married Sajeeb Hasan (24), son of the deceased Rafiqul Islam of Rokanpur Damra village of the same upazila, three months ago. Although both families initially did not want to accept the marriage, they later accepted the matter with the mediation of relatives.
Sumi went to her in-laws' house with her husband around 3 pm on Sunday. An hour and a half later, at around 4:15 pm, Sajeeb's family reported that Sumi had hanged herself with a wall in the house. Later, she was rescued in a critical condition and taken to the Sherpur Upazila Health Complex in Bogra, where the doctor declared her dead.
However, the deceased's father, Rezaul Karim, claimed that it was not a suicide; rather, a planned murder. He alleged, "My daughter is being killed and then passed off as a suicide." He also said that he was preparing to file a murder case in this incident.
Dr. S. M. Sajid Hasan Siddiqui, Health and Family Planning Officer of the Sherpur Upazila Health Complex, said, "The patient died before being brought to the hospital. Clear injury marks were found on her neck." Later, the police recovered the body and took it to the police station.
S. M., Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sherpur Police Station, said. Moinuddin Masud said, “After receiving the complaint, the body was sent to the hospital for autopsy at night. After the autopsy, the body will be handed over to the family. We are investigating the matter.”
Locals say that there was a family feud between Sumi and her husband since their marriage. However, the family is waiting for the results of the police investigation to know the real reason behind Sumi’s death.
It is worth noting that recently, there has been an increase in the number of cases of unnatural deaths of newlyweds after love marriages in different parts of the country, which has created deep concern in the society.
