The Naval Police have recovered the body of a former Air Force officer, K M Tahsin Sauri (28), from the Turag River in Dhaka. His body was found on Wednesday afternoon (October 28)—one day after he went missing—in the river near the Rajabari Ghat in Tongi.

Firoz Uddin, an inspector at the Tongi outpost of the Naval Police (Dhaka region), confirmed the incident to the media on Thursday morning (October 29).

According to the Naval Police, officers from the Tongi outpost arrived at the scene around 4:30 PM on Wednesday, following a tip-off received via the national emergency service number, 999. Tahsin’s body was subsequently recovered from the Turag River. After an initial examination (inquest), the body was sent to the morgue at Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College for an autopsy.

Naval Police official Firoz Uddin stated that Tahsin had been missing since Tuesday (October 27). He resided with his family in a flat in Sector 18 of Uttara, Dhaka. His father’s name is K M Enayet Helal.

The exact cause of Tahsin’s death has not yet been determined. The Naval Police indicated that a definitive conclusion can only be reached once the autopsy report is available.

Meanwhile, citing certain sources, some media outlets have claimed that Tahsin had released a video showing the departure of ousted former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina from the country. However, the reports do not provide any confirmed information regarding whether there is a link between the release of this video and his death.

No statement has been obtained from the deceased’s family regarding the incident. Further clarity on the cause of death and the circumstances surrounding the event will depend on the autopsy report and the findings of the ongoing investigation.
