Bhasani Thought at JU: Discussion on the beginning and political significance of independent Bangladesh

A special discussion meeting was held at Jahangirnagar University (JU) to review the political philosophy of Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhashani and the historical basis of the beginning of independent Bangladesh.
The discussion meeting was held at the university's Battala on Tuesday (December 9) at 7 pm under the initiative of JACSU. The program was moderated by JACSU working member Nabila Binte Harun.
Azad Khan Bhashani, member secretary of Bhasani Parishad, was present as a discussant at the program titled 'The Beginning of Independent Bangladesh - Historical Context and Political Significance'.

In his speech, he said that Maulana Bhashani did not study Marx, law or institutional political theory; rather, he learned politics from within the masses, culture and society. His politics was a politics of continuous struggle for the exploited and deprived, oppressed people, against the exploiting class.
He further said that Bhasani should not be studied as a person but as an inspiration to fight against class discrimination, ambivalence and exploitation. He thanked JAKSU for creating an opportunity to know Maulana Bhasani and discuss his thoughts.
President of the History Department, Professor Dr. Md. Emran Jahan said that most of the contributions to the great liberation war of Bangladesh were made by lungi-wearing farmers, workers and day laborers. Maulana Bhasani was the leader who led them.
He also said that Maulana Bhasani was the guru of everyone who later entered politics in Bangladesh.
In addition, Professor Dr. Mizanur Rahman of the Department of Archaeology, JAKSU General Secretary Md. Mazharul Islam delivered important speeches.
JAKSU Co-Cultural Secretary Mohammad Raihan Uddin delivered the welcome speech at the event. The event was presided over by JAKSU Vice-President Abdur Rashid Jitu.
