The Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University, Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan, has announced his resignation. He made the announcement at a press conference held on Tuesday (February 10) in the afternoon at the Professor Abdul Matin Chowdhury Virtual Classroom adjacent to the Vice-Chancellor’s Office.
The resignation announcement comes just one day before the 13th National Parliamentary Election.
Explaining his decision, Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan said that he is stepping down so that the elected political government can form and manage the administration according to its own priorities.
He also stated that he has not yet formally submitted his resignation letter. To avoid any administrative vacuum, he will continue in office for a few more days. He added that he would extend full cooperation to the newly elected government once it assumes power.
It may be mentioned that following the fall of the Awami League government on August 5, 2024, the then Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. A. S. M. Maksud Kamal resigned on August 10. Subsequently, on August 27, the President and Chancellor appointed former Chairman of the Department of Development Studies, Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan, as Acting Vice-Chancellor through a notification issued by the Ministry of Education.
