A ₹125 Crore Opening: Rajinikanth’s ‘Jailer 2’ Takes the Box Office by Storm

South Indian superstar Rajinikanth’s highly anticipated film, ‘Jailer 2’, has made a spectacular impact at the box office on its opening day. Released in theaters on Thursday (October 15), the film has raked in approximately ₹125.25 crore worldwide. Despite this stellar start, it fell short of breaking the opening-day record set by Rajinikanth’s previous film, ‘Coolie’.
According to preliminary estimates from Sacnilk, a firm that tracks box office data, ‘Jailer 2’ earned ₹59.70 crore (net) from 16,599 shows across India on its first day. Its total gross collection within the Indian market stands at ₹70.25 crore.
Meanwhile, the film brought in an additional ₹55 crore from international markets, pushing its total global opening-day earnings past the ₹125 crore mark.
In terms of language-wise performance, the Tamil version led the way, generating ₹43.35 crore. The Telugu version contributed ₹12.50 crore, while the Hindi version brought in ₹3.50 crore.
However, the film’s theatrical run in North India was somewhat limited due to a dispute with several multiplex chains—including PVR-INOX—regarding the timeline for its subsequent OTT release.
Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar and produced by Sun Pictures, the film features an ensemble cast alongside Rajinikanth, including Mohanlal, Ramya Krishnan, Vidya Balan, S.J. Suryah, and Mithun Chakraborty.
Previously, Rajinikanth’s ‘Coolie’ had garnered approximately ₹151 crore worldwide on its opening day. While that record remains intact, the strong debut of ‘Jailer 2’ has once again brought the South Indian megastar into the spotlight.
