The cabinet has approved the national budget of Tk 9 lakh 38 thousand crore for the upcoming fiscal year 2026-27. This approval was given in a special meeting held in the cabinet room of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban on Thursday.
The decision to approve it was taken after reviewing various aspects of the budget proposal in the meeting chaired by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. The meeting began at 10 am and lasted until noon.
After the meeting, the Prime Minister's Additional Press Secretary Atiqur Rahman Rumon told reporters that the cabinet has approved the proposed budget for the new fiscal year. After the completion of the next formal process, Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury will present the budget in the Jatiya Sangsad.
This is the first national budget presented in the parliament for the current government. Earlier, as the parliament was not functioning during the interim government, decisions related to the budget and government expenditure were approved through an ordinance.
According to analysts, issues such as economic stability, investment growth, employment creation and inflation control may gain special importance in this year's budget. Businessmen and the general public are also expecting important guidance on tax policy, social security and the market situation of daily necessities in the budget.
Concerned circles believe that the government's development plan, revenue collection strategy and outline of expenditure allocation in various sectors will be clarified through the new fiscal year budget.
