10 special trains to run from tomorrow: Railway Minister

Published: 12:50 24 May 2026
Railways Minister Sheikh Rabiul Alam said that 5 additional pairs or 10 special trains will be started from tomorrow to ensure smooth Eid journey. At the same time, he said that the situation is under control despite slight delays in some trains this morning.
He said these things while inspecting the overall management of Eid journey at Kamalapur Railway Station on Sunday (May 24).
The minister said that there was a slight schedule disruption in three trains this morning. Out of these, one train was late due to wheel slip. The relief team worked quickly to normalize train movement. Due to these reasons, some trains were delayed from 20 minutes to 1 hour and 2 hours.
He said that currently about 32 thousand passengers get the opportunity to travel in intercity trains in the country's railway system every day. On the occasion of Eid, this capacity has been increased by about 25 percent, so that about 4 thousand additional passengers can be transported.
The Railway Minister also said that the number of trains, coaches and locomotives is still not sufficient compared to the passenger demand. As a result, the management during the Eid season becomes somewhat challenging. However, special attention has been paid to security and schedule management by identifying risky areas.
He expressed hope that this year's Eid journey will be more comfortable than the previous ones. He also claimed that there was no syndicate or irregularity in ticket sales. He said that tickets have been distributed according to previous bookings through the online system.
Regarding station security, he said that some stations are still not fully secured. Work is underway to bring them under control.
State Minister for Railways Habibur Rashid Habib, Railway Secretary Md. Fahimul Islam, Director General Md. Afzal Hossain and other senior officials were present at the time.
