The so-called 'Proportional Representation (PR) movement', which was launched by Jamaat-e-Islami, was a well-planned political fraud, said Nahid Islam, convener of the National Citizens Party (NCP). He revealed this information in his verified Facebook post on Saturday (October 19).

Nahid Islam said, "The PR movement was deliberately created to obstruct the Consensus Commission reform process and divert the national dialogue from the core question of restructuring the state and the constitution in light of the people's uprising. It was never a movement for real reforms."

He added, “The demand for a core reform to establish an upper house based on proportional representation of votes was conceived as a constitutional safeguard. We wanted to build a movement around such a fundamental reform and establish the legal framework of the July Charter through broad national unity. But Jamaat and its allies have hijacked this agenda. They have turned it into a technical PR issue and used it as a bargaining chip for their narrow party interests. Their aim was never reform; it was manipulation.”

Nahid Islam clarified, “Jamaat-e-Islami never participated in the reform talks before or after the July uprising. They did not make any fundamental proposals, constitutional visions or any commitment to a democratic republic. Their sudden support for reform in the Consensus Commission was not an act of faith, but a strategic infiltration, political sabotage disguised as reformism.”

He concluded, “Now the people of Bangladesh have clearly understood this deception. They have awakened to the truth and will never again be deceived by false reformists or manipulators. Neither the great Creator nor the sovereign people of this land will ever again allow dishonest, opportunistic and morally bankrupt forces to rule over them.”
