The popularity of football in the world may not need to be re-stated. And seeing the frenzy of football lovers in our country, even Argentina-Brazil is surprised. Because of such madness in Bangladesh, the Argentine World Cup winning goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez came and visited this country. Then Brazilian star Ronaldinho also came to Bangladesh.
Football fans in Bangladesh are divided into two groups. One is Argentina, another team is Brazil. But beyond this there are supporters of other parties, but it is only a handful of people. But all our enthusiasm is about these two teams. Every four years when the World Cup starts, the madness of football lovers in our country increases manifold. The Copa America is currently being played in the United States. It is the biggest tournament in South America. Brazil is the most advanced in the list of champions in the World Cup. And Argentina and Uruguay have won the most 15 times in Copa America.
However, this time the supporters of Argentina and Brazil are involved in a different controversy. In the current Copa America, Brazil was eliminated from the quarter-finals after losing to Uruguay in a penalty shootout. On the other hand, Argentina has reached the semi-finals by defeating Ecuador in the penalty shootout in the quarter-finals. Since then, the argument between the supporters of the two teams has accumulated.
However, statistics show that Argentina has not lost on penalties in the last two years. On the other hand, Brazil did not win the penalty shootout in the last two years. Currently, Argentina is one of the strongest teams. At one time, the lack of a good goalkeeper has hurt the team. In 2006, Argentina lost to Germany in a penalty shootout at the FIFA World Cup. Then Albiceleste lost 4-0 against Germany in the 2010 World Cup. In the final of the 2014 World Cup, the azure-blue jersey holders lost by conceding a goal against Germany in the last minute of extra time. Messi had to leave after losing 4-3 to France in the 2018 World Cup.
Since then, the story of Argentina has been very different. Argentina went to play in the 2022 World Cup after going undefeated for 36 consecutive matches. Messi lost to Saudi Arabia. Then who stops them. After that, they made it to the final by showing surprise one after another. Argentina won the World Cup after defeating France in a penalty shootout in the final. One of the heroes of that match is goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez.
Argentina have gone to penalty shootout in three matches in the last two years. And they won all three matches. Qatar's World Cup draw against the Netherlands ended 2-2 in regulation time. Then Argentina beat them in the penalty shootout. And in the final, Albiceleste defeated France and became the champion. Lionel Scaloni's team reached the semi-finals of the tournament by winning the penalty shootout against Ecuador in the quarter-finals of the current Copa America.
On the other hand, Brazil has gone to penalty shootout in only two matches in the last two years. In the last World Cup in Qatar, the scheduled time ended with a 1-1 draw against Croatia. Brazil had to withdraw from the World Cup after losing to them in a penalty shootout. Alisson Becker, one of the best goalkeepers of all time, was in charge of Brazil's goal post in the quarter-finals of the last Copa America. However, Brazil were eliminated from the quarter-finals of the tournament after losing in a penalty shootout against Uruguay.
