No evidence of irregularities was found in the Jahangirnagar University Central Students' Union (JACSU) elections, said Election Commission Member Secretary Professor Dr. AKM Rashidul Alam. He made this comment at the JACSU results announcement ceremony at the Senate Building on Saturday (September 13) at 5:15 pm.

The voting for the JACSU and Hall elections began at 9 am last Thursday and continued till 5 pm. The counting of votes ended at around 2:30 pm on Saturday.

There were a total of 11,747 voters in this election, of which about 8,000 voters cast their votes. A total of 178 candidates were finally approved to contest for various posts in the JACSU elections. Of these, 9 are contesting for the post of Vice President (VP), 9 for the post of General Secretary (GS), 6 for the post of Joint General Secretary (Female) and 10 for the post of Joint General Secretary (Male).

Voting was held in 224 booths in 21 halls of the university, which include 10 female halls and 11 male halls. Voters cast a total of 40 ballots, including the central and hall parliaments.

In this election, 25 percent of the total candidates of JAKSUR were female students, and the remaining 75 percent were male students. No female student candidate was a candidate for the VP post. Only two out of 15 candidates for the GS post were female. In addition, there were no female candidates for four posts. 24.4 percent of the total candidates for all the hall parliaments were female students. There were no female candidates for 15 posts in five of the girls' halls.

A total of eight panels participated in the election, supported by the Left, Shibir, Chhatra Dal and independents. However, five panels, including Chhatra Dal, boycotted the election, alleging irregularities.

In announcing the election results, Professor Rashidul Alam confirmed that no evidence of irregularities was found in the official voting and counting and that the election was conducted transparently and fairly.
