A recent statement by Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar has created a huge stir in the country's political arena. He said that the Indian government had informed Islamabad before launching 'Operation Sindoor' inside Pakistan. After his statement came to light, the leader of the main opposition Congress party, Rahul Gandhi, reacted strongly and demanded justice against Jaishankar.

Rahul Gandhi wrote on X (formerly Twitter), "Informing Pakistan before the attack was a crime. The External Affairs Minister has publicly admitted that the Indian government did this. Who gave permission for this? How many aircraft did our Air Force lose as a result?" He also attached a video of Jaishankar with his statement, in which the External Affairs Minister is heard saying, “At the beginning of the operation, we sent a message to Pakistan saying, ‘We are attacking terrorist infrastructure and we will not do anything to the Pakistani soldiers. This gave them a chance to stay away.’”

Jaishankar’s statement has not only drawn criticism from the Congress but also from the New Delhi-based Aam Aadmi Party. The party’s Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Singh said, “When a Foreign Minister publicly says that Pakistan was warned before the attack, it is a betrayal of the country. It was a gross disrespect to the Indian Army. Informing Pakistan in advance was unprecedented and unforgivable.”

He added, “Now Prime Minister Narendra Modi will have to answer – how true is what Trump said? How reliable is the External Affairs Minister’s statement? Was this decision a high-level directive? The people of India have a right to know about this. Has the Modi government betrayed our armed forces?”

Meanwhile, the government's Press Information Bureau (PIB) has claimed that Jaishankar's statement has been misrepresented. They say he never said that Pakistan was directly informed before the attack. However, he can be heard clearly saying this in the controversial video and the Ministry of External Affairs has not yet denied his statement.

According to experts, this statement has not only raised political controversy, but also raised big questions about national security, diplomacy and the morale of the army. The opposition has also demanded a full investigation into the incident, an explanation from the Modi government and the trial of Jaishankar.

The ongoing tension over this issue has added a new dimension to Indian politics and is likely to intensify in the coming days.
