Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced an ambitious plan to increase nuclear power generation capacity in his Independence Day speech. He said that India will start building 10 new nuclear reactors by 2047 with the aim of increasing its current nuclear power generation capacity by more than 10 times.

Modi said that this step will be an important milestone in India's energy security and sustainable development. Nuclear power will play a major role in meeting the country's growing energy needs as well as reducing carbon emissions. He stressed, "A reliable and environmentally friendly source of energy is essential for India's fast-growing economy. Nuclear power will ensure our energy security and help in the fight against climate change."

India's growing population and industrialization are constantly increasing the demand for energy. In this context, nuclear power is seen as a viable option. Modi said that the 10 new reactors will be built in phases and they will ensure world-class safety and efficiency using state-of-the-art technology.

India currently has 23 nuclear reactors operating, with a total generating capacity of 7,480 MW. The new projects will significantly increase the generating capacity. Modi announced that work will continue to increase this capacity by 10 times its current capacity by 2047.
