A clash occurred between citizens of India and Bangladesh in the ‘No Man’s Land’ area on the Kiranganj border in Chapainawabganj. Tension arose over cutting down trees. The two injured Bangladeshi citizens are Roni, son of Ziarul Islam, a resident of Ghantola Bishwanathpur village in Binodpur union, and Faruk, son of Serajul Islam, a resident of Kariganj village.

The clash, which started around 12 noon on Saturday, was still going on at 3 pm, and although the border guards of the two countries tried to control the situation, the situation has not calmed down yet. Citizens on the Indian border are throwing hand grenades at citizens of Bangladesh, while citizens of Bangladesh are staying in the border area with sticks and axes.

Although the clash started from the Kiranganj border, the tension quickly spread to the Chauka border area, where a dispute is going on over the construction of a barbed wire fence. Tension spread over a three-kilometer area of ​​the border.

Currently, additional BGB and BSF members are stationed at the scene. 59 BGB Battalion Deputy Commander Imrul Kayes is trying to control the situation and additional forces have been called in. At the same time, additional BSF presence has also been noticed on the Indian border.

Locals allege that Indian nationals have cut down at least 30 mango trees and hundreds of plum trees by entering Bangladesh in the Chowka border area.

Local resident Robu said, “Injured Farooq was on a motorcycle to check the situation on the border and suffered a serious head injury from a stone thrown by India.” Another named Mithun said, “Injured Roni was standing with bamboo on the border when Indian nationals entered Bangladesh and attacked him, resulting in his injuries.”
