A protest rally was held in Shahbagh, the capital Dhaka, on Friday over the robbery and molestation of a woman on a Rajshahi-bound bus. Current and former students of Dhaka University (DU), the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement and the Bangladesh Student Rights Council participated in the protest. They protested against the government by protesting rape and impunity.

The incident took place on February 17, when a robbery and molestation of a woman took place on a bus from Dhaka to Rajshahi. However, four days after the incident, on Friday, a case was registered against 8-9 unidentified people at the Mirzapur Police Station in Tangail. The case was filed by the victim passenger Omar Ali as the plaintiff. Mirzapur Police Station Inspector Mohammad Salauddin said that a case has been filed under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.

Earlier, the complaint was first filed at the Baraigram police station in Natore, but the case was not accepted due to boundary complications. Later, the Mirzapur police station also avoided responsibility on the same pretext. However, after the news of the incident was published, it sparked widespread discussion across the country and a case was filed on the fourth day.

At the protest rally, former VP of Dhaka University's Shamsun Nahar Hall Tasneem Afroz Imi, former DU student Al Fazle Rabbi, and coordinator of the anti-discrimination student movement Tahmid Al Mudassir Chowdhury protested against violence against women and impunity for rape in their speeches. They demanded the government's failure and the resignation of the Home Affairs Advisor.

Meanwhile, a protest march was held at Rajshahi University (RU) yesterday afternoon over the incident, where demands were made for the immediate arrest of the perpetrators.
