A scuffle and scuffle broke out between the college chairman and local Chhatra Dal leaders and activists after they came to seek permission to organize a cultural program at the SAIC College of Medical Science and Technology located in Mirpur-13 in the capital. The incident took place on Friday afternoon, resulting in tension in the college campus and surrounding areas.
Eyewitnesses said that around 4:30 pm, some Chhatra Dal leaders and activists from the Mirpur area came to the college premises and contacted the college chairman seeking permission to organize a cultural program. At that time, when the college authorities expressed their reluctance to approve the program due to political affiliations, a heated exchange of words began between the two parties. At one stage, it took the form of a push and a fight.
Before the situation worsened, college students and local residents informed the joint forces. Police and RAB members quickly arrived at the scene. They brought the situation under control and arrested six people from the scene. A law enforcement source said that the detainees are being interrogated and an investigation is underway to find out who is responsible for the incident.
Regarding the incident, the chairman of SAIC Medical College said, "We cannot allow any political activities or events to be organized in the educational institution. They were trying to forcefully obtain permission to organize the event, which we could not accept. Their behavior was aggressive and indecent."
On the other hand, Chhatra Dal leaders and activists alleged that they went to talk to the college authorities completely peacefully. They claim that the authorities mistreated them and behaved aggressively for unnecessary and trivial reasons. Both sides are blaming each other.
After this incident, panic and anxiety have arisen among the college students. Many say that the educational environment is being ruined due to the intrusion of politics into the educational premises. Locals have also expressed anger over the incident and called for necessary measures to be taken to prevent such incidents from recurring in the future.
Regarding the incident, the officer-in-charge (OC) of Mirpur Model Police Station said, “We are seriously investigating the incident. Video footage, eyewitness statements and other evidence are being collected. Appropriate legal action will be taken against the culprits.”
Currently, additional police are deployed at the college and the situation is completely under control, the concerned administration said.
