A journalist named Tariqul Islam died while covering the Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) elections. He was working as a reporter for UK-based television channel S-A.

The incident took place on Tuesday (September 9) afternoon at the university's historic Curzon Hall premises. According to eyewitnesses, Tariqul was covering the DUCSU elections at around 1:30 pm. He suddenly fell ill and collapsed on the ground. Other journalists and colleagues who were present immediately rushed him to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College (DMCH).

After conducting tests, doctors at DMCH declared him dead at around 2 pm. At that time, Inspector Md. Faruk, in-charge of the hospital's police camp, told reporters,
"Tariqul's body is currently kept at the DMCH morgue. We have informed the concerned police station about the matter. The real cause of death will be known after the autopsy."

The sudden death has cast a shadow of grief over the journalist community. Colleagues said that Tariqul was very hardworking and dedicated to his profession. Losing a colleague like this during an important news gathering like the election is an irreparable loss for them.

There was a crowd of journalists on the university campus since morning on the occasion of the DUCSU elections. Reporters from various media outlets were covering the voting process, voter turnout and security situation. In the meantime, this tragic incident occurred.
