A clash broke out between Chhatra Dal and Islami Chhatra Shibir at Muladi Government College in Barisal. At least 25 people were injured in the clash on the college campus on Thursday (September 11) morning. Five of them were admitted to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital in Barisal in critical condition. The rest were treated locally.

The injured are identified as Manna (20), Hamim (20), Bayezid (23), Abdullah (24) and Rakib (24).

Barisal District Chhatra Shibir President Syed Ahmed said that preparations were underway to organize a career guideline program for first-year honors students on September 23. At that time, when district and upazila Shibir leaders went to the college, Chhatra Dal activists launched an ambush.

On the other hand, Muladi Upazila Chhatra Dal convener Mohiuddin Dhali denied the allegations and said, “Chhatra Shibir has been trying to take control of the college since the DUCSU elections. On Thursday, when our leaders and activists protested against Tarique Rahman, our leaders and activists protested. Then Chhatra Shibir attacked us.” He claimed that at least eight Chhatra Dal activists were injured and admitted to the hospital.

Jahangir Hossain, a doctor at the emergency department of Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital, said, “Six injured people have been admitted from Muladi. They are undergoing treatment in the surgery ward.”

Muladi Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shafiqul Islam said that initially the situation heated up due to a scuffle between two students. Later, the police went and brought the clash under control. The situation is currently normal. Work is underway to identify those involved in the incident.
