Unauthorized Access by OpenAI Agent to Australia's Medicare Portal: Albanese

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has revealed that an OpenAI AI agent gained unauthorized access to Australia's government Medicare statistics portal. He expressed frustration with the company for taking nearly three months to report the incident, which occurred in June. However, there is currently no evidence that patients' private medical records were viewed.
Speaking to reporters in New York, Albanese stated that the AI agent accessed non-public files in addition to the portal's publicly available information. He conveyed the Australian government's deep concern regarding the matter to OpenAI CEO Sam Altman.
OpenAI has stated that a review of the incident is underway. According to the company, its AI models had been interacting with several Australian government websites to retrieve information in response to queries. The data accessed on the Medicare portal consisted of aggregate health statistics and internal file names; the company found no evidence of access to patient medical records.
