In Madaripur, two people were beaten up on suspicion of cow theft, and the pickup was set on fire

An agitated mob thrashed two people on suspicion of being thieves when they were fleeing with cows in a pickup van in Madaripur. Later the pickup van carrying cattle was set on fire. The incident took place in Pakhira area of Sadar Upazila on Friday evening.
The police rescued two seriously injured victims of the lynching and admitted them to Madaripur 250-bed district hospital. However, the names of the two were not immediately known.
According to police and local sources, a pickup van carrying some cows from Mustafapur of Sadar Upazila came to Thantuli area of the city. They also bargain with buyers to sell cows in Thantuli area. When doubts arise among the locals about the matter, they ask various questions to the cow sellers. Before realizing the situation, the two men quickly left the scene with the pickup van. Later some local youth started chasing the pickup van. They went to Pakhira area and managed to intercept the pickup van. After that, a local crowd gathered and thrashed the two people in the pickup van, suspecting them as thieves. At that time, they vandalized the pickup van and set it on fire. On receiving information, police and fire service reached the spot and brought the fire under control. Later the seriously injured two were admitted to Madaripur 250 bed district hospital.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Madaripur Sadar Model Police Station AHM Salauddin said, after receiving the information, the police sent to the spot and rescued the two injured and sent them to the hospital. Both of them were badly beaten by the local crowd. Legal action will be taken if a complaint is received in this regard.
