At least 20 people were injured in a horrific road accident in Khoksha upazila of Kushtia when a bus and a truck collided head-on. The accident occurred at around 9 am today in the Paikpara Mirzapur area of the Kushtia-Rajbari highway. Eyewitnesses said that a local passenger bus leaving Kushtia was heading towards Rajbari. A truck coming from the opposite direction lost control and collided head-on with the bus. Due to the intensity of the collision, the bus overturned on the side of the road and the truck was twisted.

After the accident, local residents and fire service personnel rescued the injured and admitted them to Khoksha Upazila Health Complex. Some of the seriously injured have been shifted to Kushtia General Hospital. Some of them are said to be in critical condition.

As a result of the accident, traffic on the highway was completely stopped and hundreds of vehicles were stuck for about three hours. Passengers suffered greatly as a result. Later, the police and highway authorities conducted a rescue operation to remove the accident-hit vehicles and clear the road and normalize traffic.

Khoksa Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Mahbubul Alam said that initially it is believed that the truck driver was drowsy or was speeding, due to which he lost control. He said that the investigation into the incident is underway and necessary action will be taken.

Meanwhile, locals have complained that accidents often occur on the Kushtia-Rajbari highway. They claim that the road is becoming more risky day by day due to speeding vehicles, reckless driving and lack of traffic management. They demanded that traffic control be strengthened and CCTV be installed on this road.

It is to be noted that no loss of life has been reported in this incident so far, but considering the condition of the seriously injured, it is feared that the situation could be more complicated.
