920 kg of banned polythene seized in Barisal, businessman fined 1 lakh taka

RAB-8 has seized a huge quantity of banned polythene in Bakerganj upazila of Barisal. A mobile court has fined a businessman 1 lakh taka in this incident. On Thursday night, a team of RAB-8 conducted a raid on Mandira Store in Sahebganj area based on a secret tip-off. During the raid, 920 kg of illegal polythene was recovered from the store's godown.
On Friday afternoon, Mobile Court Judge and Assistant Commissioner (Land) Tanmoy Halder fined the shop owner Gopal Karmakar 1 lakh taka. He was sentenced to six months in prison in default. Later, Gopal Karmakar paid the fine and gave a bond not to engage in such activities in the future.
The fined Gopal Karmakar is the son of Manik Karmakar of Kalaskathi village of the upazila and is the owner of Mandira Store in Sahebganj Bazar. RAB-8 Senior Assistant Director Amit Hasan said that Gopal Karmakar was illegally trading in such polythene, which is very harmful to the environment. A huge amount of polythene was recovered after conducting a raid on a secret tip-off. He also said that such raids will continue to protect the environment.
