A notification was issued on Tuesday (September 2) at 3 pm, ordering 91 students to be summoned to the hall principal's office for entering the July-36 residential hall of Rajshahi University (RU) after 11 pm. The matter has come under intense criticism on social media.
A notification signed by the hall principal, Professor Lovely Nahar, announced that the previous instruction has been withdrawn. The previous notification had said that students with specific serial numbers who returned to the hall late (after 11 pm) have been ordered to be present at the principal's office.
Fahir Amin, president of the social and rights-based organization Student Rights Association, commented on the matter, "Summarying students by hanging a list of names on the notice board is defamatory and morally unacceptable."
On the other hand, a student named Nusrat Islam wrote in the RU 'Paribaar' group, "Who would have taken responsibility if an accident had happened to someone? Precautions should be taken for the safety of girls."
When informed about this, Professor Lovely Nahar said, "We took this decision considering the safety of the students. However, after criticism, the notification was withdrawn. There is no other reason here. Those who were late by a day were also included in the list, which was a mistake. The main objective was to ensure that there was no danger surrounding the Raksu elections and to ensure the safety of everyone."
