Viral video of 'weapons recovery' at RU is fake: Proctor-Chhatra Dal-Shibir jointly refute rumors

The university administration and related student organizations have confirmed that a video circulating on social media claiming that a large quantity of weapons was recovered from Rajshahi University's (RU) Nabab Abdul Latif Hall is completely fake and baseless. Although various rumors and misleading information have been circulated recently about the video that was circulated on Facebook, it has been stated that Rajshahi University or any residential hall has no connection with it.
The video circulating on social media shows a large quantity of weapons being recovered from a room. Some claim that it was recovered from the room of the Chhatra Shibir president at Rajshahi University's Nabab Abdul Latif Hall. Some posts also say that the weapons were found in the room of the president of the hall branch Chhatra Dal. In the wake of these claims, a sensation has been created across the campus regarding the matter.
However, the investigation revealed that the video was originally recorded on August 18, 2024, during the recovery of looted weapons from Tongibari police station in Munshiganj. At that time, the army conducted a raid, recovered the looted weapons and handed them over to the relevant police station. The same old video has recently been used in a different context to spread rumors linking it to a hall of Rajshahi University.
In this regard, Rajshahi University Proctor Professor Mahbubur Rahman said, “The matter is 100% fake. We visited the scene and also checked with the law enforcement agencies. No evidence of weapons being recovered in Nawab Abdul Latif Hall was found. A group has intentionally spread such rumors to destabilize the country and the campus.”
RU branch Chhatra Shibir President Mostaqur Rahman Zahid also said that Shibir has no involvement in the video. He said that the information spread on social media is completely baseless and a rumor. Even in this era, there is no room for such false propaganda. Chhatra Shibir never does weapons politics; they always work for the welfare of ordinary students. We regret the mentality of those who are spreading such propaganda for political purposes.
On the other hand, Sultan Ahmed Rahi, convener of RU branch Chhatra Dal, said, “It is clear that this is a complete rumor. A group is deliberately using such videos to spread confusion on social media. This incident has happened as part of a continuation of attempts to spread rumors of weapons hoarding on campus at various times before.”
Overall, it is clear from the statements of the administration and student organizations that the video that went viral demanding the recovery of weapons at Rajshahi University is a completely fake and purposeful rumor. Those concerned have urged students to be wary of misleading information and not to spread any news without verification.
