The death of a dog in the pond of the historic Khanjahan (RA) shrine in Bagerhat has given rise to a heartbreaking incident. On the afternoon of April 8, a dog suddenly fell into the water in the ghat area adjacent to the shrine, and a crocodile dragged it away in an instant. The incident, which happened in front of the eyes of the people present, created a sensation in the area and later the video went viral on social media.
According to eyewitnesses, the dog was sick and had bitten a few people before the incident. When the people tried to chase the dog away, it ran towards the ghat. At that time, the dog came into contact with a security guard and fell into the water. Just then, the crocodile in the pond quickly came and pulled the dog under the water with its mouth.
About half an hour after the incident, the dog's body floated on the other side of the pond. It was later recovered and buried. However, after the incident went viral, various rumors spread on social media. Some claim that the dog was deliberately thrown into the water as food for the crocodile.
The shrine authorities have denied such allegations. They claim that this is a completely unexpected accident. No one tied the dog or forced it into the water.
A three-member investigation committee has already been formed by the district administration to investigate the incident. In addition, the dog's body was lifted from the ground and samples were collected and sent to Dhaka for testing. Officials of the livestock department said that only after receiving the test report can it be said for sure whether the dog was infected with any disease.
Meanwhile, the administration has instructed to refrain from feeding any kind of live animal to the crocodile in the shrine area. Curiosity and discussions are still going on in the area surrounding the entire incident.
