Fair activities started again in Savar under the umbrella of AL leader without permission

The fair activities have started again without permission in the sand field of Emu Saheb in Genda area of Savar with a partial name change. The name has been given as Lal Sabujer Organic Food, Agriculture, Industry and Trade Fair - 2025. However, this time, some people identifying themselves as Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP) are running the illegal fair activities under the umbrella of Awami League leader.
According to local sources in Savar, some youths have restarted the fair from Friday under the name of a 'new organization'. They have only changed the name of the fair from "Organic Food Products, Agricultural Products Exhibition and Industry Trade Fair-2025" to "Lal Sabujer Organic Food, Agriculture, Industry and Trade Fair 2025".
Although the fair had started with the permission of the Dhaka Deputy Commissioner earlier, a report was published in the local daily Phulkari newspaper after just a week alleging that it was conducting illegal and irregular activities. Later, the district administration's investigation found discrepancies with the approval, and ordered the fair to be closed. Although it was supposed to run for a month, it was closed.
Locals complained that even after the closure, the organizing committee members were trying to restart the fair in various ways. Although the District Commissioner's office has not given any new permission so far. Those concerned said that the fair activities have resumed in the field only on the pretext of submitting an application.
Meanwhile, some local residents said that the role behind the restart of the fair is played by the banned Awami League leader Babul Mia alias Pagla Babul, senior vice-president of Savar Municipality Awami League. It is known that the issue of restarting the fair has also been mentioned in his personal Facebook status. He has urged everyone to come to the fair. However, his statement on this complaint could not be obtained.
Meanwhile, annual exams are about to start in various schools and madrasas in Savar. Local guardians, teachers and locals fear that the loud noise, crowd, traffic jams and uncontrolled environment of the fair can cause major disruption to the studies of students. They believe that such a fair during the exams is detrimental to the conducive environment for education.
A guardian named Shahadat Hossain said in this regard,
“The annual exams start after waiting for the whole year. If the fair is held at this time, the children’s attention will be lost. The administration should take immediate action.”
The administration has informed that if anyone starts a fair without permission, it is completely illegal, and immediate action will be taken if a complaint is received.
The locals have sought the intervention of the administration immediately so that the suffering of the common people including the examinees does not increase due to the illegal fair.
