A mobile court has fined the hospital authorities Tk 50,000 for providing medical services without authorization at the New Al Raji Hospital at Maona Crossroads in Sreepur Upazila of Gazipur. The drive was conducted by Sreepur Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Saidul Islam on Sunday (December 7) afternoon in collaboration with the Upazila Health Department.
According to the mobile court sources, a newborn died in a childbirth-related incident at the hospital last Saturday. In the drive conducted as part of the investigation after that incident, the hospital authorities failed to show any valid license and necessary documents to operate the medical institution. For this reason, the hospital was fined Tk 50,000 under the Consumer Rights Protection Act.
Sreepur Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr. Shafiqul Islam said, “New Al Raji Hospital does not have any government authorization. Action has been taken against them as per the law.” He added that the hospital authorities have given a written undertaking to update all the necessary documents and inform the Health Department within the next two months.
