Worker dies after loft collapses at under-construction building in Sreepur

A construction worker named Russell (26) died after a scaffold collapsed while working on a multi-storey building under construction in Sreepur Upazila of Gazipur. Although the accident occurred on Saturday afternoon, he died on Sunday night while undergoing treatment at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.
The deceased Russell is the son of Md. Dulal Mia of Shaluadi village of Pakundia police station in Kishoreganj district. He lived with his family in a rented house in the Beraiderchala area of Ward No. 7 of Sreepur Municipality and was a construction worker by profession.
According to eyewitnesses and relatives of the deceased, Russell was working on a scaffold on a five-storey building during the construction work of a madrasa building in the Beraiderchala area. At that time, the scaffold suddenly collapsed and he fell down and was seriously injured. Later, his colleagues rescued him and admitted him to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital. He died there while undergoing treatment.
In this regard, Sreepur Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Md. Rabiul Islam said that the relatives of the deceased have filed a written complaint with the police station. Preparations are underway for an autopsy of the body and the matter will be investigated and necessary legal action will be taken.
