Campaign to clear illegal sand and stone possession on Banglabanda Highway, businessman and driver fined

The upazila administration has fined people for illegally storing sand and stones on both sides of the Banglabanda Highway in Tentulia and Sadar Upazilas of Panchagarh by conducting a mobile court for creating accidents and air pollution by parking trucks on the road and loading and unloading them.
Tentulia Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate SM Akash conducted the drive from Bhajanpur to Bhutipukur road in Tentulia from 12 noon to 2 pm on Tuesday (December 10). During this, a total of 30 thousand taka was collected from three businessmen and 4 thousand taka from two truck drivers for the crime of polluting the environment by storing construction materials (sand and stones) on the road and loading and unloading them by parking trucks on the highway.
On the other hand, Sadar Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Mohan Minji conducted a drive in Jagdal area of Panchagarh Sadar Upazila from 4:30 pm to 5:30 pm. There, two businessmen were fined Tk 10,000 for illegally storing sand and stones on the road.
Assistant Director of the Panchagarh office of the Department of Environment Md. Yusuf Ali served as the prosecutor in both operations.
The Department of Environment said that such operations will be conducted regularly to keep the highway free of encroachments, reduce accidents and control air pollution.
