Trinamool Congress chief and former Chief Minister of the state Mamata Banerjee has strongly criticized the BJP government in West Bengal and called for a mass movement. She alleged that the current government is abusing administrative power to narrow the democratic environment and has practically turned the entire West Bengal into a ‘prison’.

In a live speech on social media on Tuesday (August 4), Mamata Banerjee said that a large number of cases are being filed against opposition party leaders and activists and common people. She also accused the activities of local government institutions of spreading political influence.

She claimed that various types of pressure are being created on opposition political representatives and administrative institutions are being used for political purposes. She also alleged that important activities like delimitation and census are being conducted without adequate consultation with political parties.

Mamata said that since the desired remedy has not been found through Parliament and the courts, now the most effective way is a democratic movement and creating public awareness. She alleged that obstacles have also been created in the financial activities of her party and demanded an investigation into the financial transactions of all political parties in this regard.

At the time, the Trinamool leader also expressed solidarity with the students protesting against irregularities in various recruitment exams. She said that the voices of the youth who want to peacefully pursue their demands should not be silenced. She also called on everyone to remain united in protecting democratic rights.

In her speech, Mamata also said that political pressure or obstacles will not be able to divert her from the path of movement. She mentioned that she will continue to play an active role in the future to protect people's rights, democracy and social harmony.

However, there was no immediate official response from the BJP regarding Mamata's allegations.
