Ramisa murder case: Two accused present in court for defense hearing today

Two accused Sohel Rana and Swapna Khatun have been presented in court for defense in the case filed in the rape and murder of 8-year-old Ramisa in Pallabi, Mirpur, in the capital. They were brought to the court from jail in a prison van on Wednesday (June 3) morning.
A hearing to record their statements under Section 342 of the Criminal Procedure Code is scheduled to be held in the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Child Violence Prevention Tribunal Judge Masrur Salekin. During this time, the accused will present their statements on the charges of rape, murder and aiding and abetting the crime brought against them.
Earlier, the testimony phase of the case ended on Tuesday. Various evidence seized during the investigation during the trial was presented in the court and identified by witnesses and included in the case file. The court recorded the testimony of 16 out of a total of 17 witnesses in the case. The witnesses include the parents, relatives, neighbors, policemen, doctors, magistrates and investigation officers of the deceased Ramisa.
It is worth noting that Ramisa's dismembered body was recovered from a flat in the capital's Pallabi area on May 19. The accused Sohel Rana fled after the incident but was later arrested from the Fatulla area of Narayanganj. At the same time, his wife Swapna Khatun was arrested from the scene. The trial of the case is currently in its final stages and the court will decide the next legal action after hearing the defense.
