Even before its release, Rajinikanth’s highly anticipated film ‘Jailer 2’ has become a topic of discussion. Although the initial cut of the film was approximately 4 hours and 25 minutes long, the final version has been trimmed to about 2 hours and 45 minutes. This means more than 100 minutes of footage were removed during the editing process.

The film, directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, has received a ‘UA 16+’ certification from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The runtime of the censor-approved version is 165 minutes and 18 seconds.

‘Jailer 2’ is set to release in theaters worldwide on October 15. It is the sequel to the acclaimed 2023 film ‘Jailer’, starring Rajinikanth.

Why was so much footage cut?

Citing a Singapore-based film report, Pinkvilla revealed that the initial cut of ‘Jailer 2’ was 265 minutes—or 4 hours and 25 minutes—long.

Subsequent editing removed over 100 minutes of footage, bringing the runtime down to approximately 165 minutes. The report suggests that the duration was likely reduced to maintain the pace of the main narrative and eliminate unnecessary digressions.

However, the filmmakers have not disclosed specific details regarding which scenes were excluded from the final version.

Rajinikanth returns as ‘Tiger’ Muthuvel Pandian

Rajinikanth reprises his role as the retired jailer ‘Tiger’ Muthuvel Pandian in ‘Jailer 2’. When a new criminal syndicate threatens his peaceful life, he is forced to return to his former persona to protect his family and his legacy.

Several actors from the original film will also appear in the sequel, including Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu, and Mirnaa.

New additions to the cast include S.J. Suryah, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Vidya Balan, and Mithun Chakraborty.

Additionally, reports indicate that Mohanlal and Shiva Rajkumar will also be making a return. Reports regarding Vijay Sethupathi's special appearance have also surfaced in the Indian media.

Following the success of Jailer in 2023, there was already significant audience interest in the sequel. Now, news that a substantial portion was cut during editing just before the release has sparked fresh curiosity surrounding the film.
