An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of Pallabi Police Station of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has been arrested with 5,310 yaba tablets from Uttara area of ​​the capital. Another person who was with him has also been arrested by the police in this incident.

The name of the arrested ASI is Md. Shafiqul Islam (43). The name of the person arrested with him is Wasim (24). Sub-Inspector of Dakshinkhan Police Station Bakhtiar Hossain confirmed the matter.

Police said that a separate operation was conducted in Uttara area on Sunday (August 23) night based on information about the involvement of a gang in yaba smuggling. First, Wasim was arrested in Azampur Kacha Bazar area. He was caught when he tried to escape after sensing the presence of the police. 50 yaba tablets were recovered from him.

Later, ASI Shafiqul Islam was arrested in a raid conducted in a rented house based on information given by Wasim. At that time, 200 more yaba pills were recovered from him.

Then, the police conducted a raid on another flat in building number 67 of Bismillah Palli Noor Building in Azampur Kachabazar. Another 5,100 yaba pills were recovered from there. In total, 5,310 yaba pills were seized in the raid.

SI Shahinur Rahman, the investigation officer of the case, said that a case was filed under the Narcotics Control Act on August 24. Along with the two arrested, two to three other unidentified persons have been made accused in the case.

When the two arrested were produced in court, the court ordered them to be sent to jail.

According to the case report, during the initial interrogation, the arrested persons claimed that they collected yaba from different parts of the country and sold it in Dakshinkhan and surrounding areas.

Meanwhile, Pallabi Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Md. Imdadul Haque confirmed the arrest of ASI Shafiqul Islam. He said there were irregularities in Shafiqul's regular performance of duties at his workplace.
