Bangladesh's popular content creator Ashraful Alam alias Hero Alam has once again entered the political arena. This time he will participate in the national parliament election from Dhaka's 17th constituency. Like before, he will contest as an independent candidate, but he said that discussions are underway with some parties.
The most discussed and strong candidate in Dhaka-17 constituency is Andalib Rahman Partha, who will contest from Bangladesh Jatiya Party-BJP. Besides, candidates from several other parties including Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh and NCP are also contesting in this constituency. Hero Alam said that he will remain an independent candidate for now despite being in contact with all these parties.
Hero Alam said that participating in the election is not just a matter of winning for him, it is also a means of protest. He said, "Let there be fair elections in the country, that is everyone's expectation. Even if I get 100 votes, there is no problem. Let people come, vote, celebrate." He added that discussions are underway with many party leaders and he is considering which proposal to accept. If he can be accepted by a party, then he can go, otherwise he will be an independent candidate.
Claiming to be a representative of the lower class and marginalized communities, Hero Alam said, “I want to go to parliament for the poor, neglected and hardworking people. They are the real strength of the country, but they are the most neglected when it comes to getting state services. I want to work for them and be in the field.”
Dhaka-17 constituency consists of parts of Dhaka Cantonment, Gulshan, Banani, Baridhara, Mohakhali and Mirpur. The total number of voters in this constituency is 3 lakh 25 thousand 205. Hero Alam had contested from this constituency as an independent candidate earlier.
