Former US President Donald Trump has warned that buying oil or petrochemical products from Iran will immediately lead to US sanctions. He said, “Any person or country that buys Iranian oil or petrochemical products will no longer be able to do business with the United States.”

On Friday (May 2), the British news agency Reuters reported that Trump made this warning in a message on his social media ‘Truth Social’ on Thursday. In his words, “They will not be able to do business with the United States in any way, in any form.”

The comments came at a time when the US-Iran meeting to be held in Rome on Iran’s nuclear program has been postponed. A senior Iranian official told Reuters, “A new date for the meeting will be set based on the behavior of the United States.”

The Trump administration has previously imposed sanctions on several Chinese and other companies. These companies were accused of illegally engaging in Iran's oil and petrochemical trade.

In February of this year, Trump re-enacted the "maximum pressure" policy, the main goal of which is to reduce Iran's oil exports to zero and prevent the country from developing nuclear weapons.

Analysts believe that these threats and sanctions are further complicating Iran-US relations.
