The helicopter 'Marine One' carrying US President Donald Trump and his wife Melania Trump has made an emergency landing in the UK due to a mechanical problem. The incident occurred on Thursday (September 18) on its way from Chequers to London's Stansted Airport.
Fox News reported that the pilots decided to land at a local airport for safety reasons after the helicopter developed a mechanical problem. Trump and the First Lady later reached their destination safely in an alternative helicopter.
White House Press Secretary Caroline Levitt said in a statement that alternative measures had to be taken due to a minor hydraulic problem. She added, "As an extra precaution, the pilots made an emergency landing before reaching Stansted. The President and First Lady later boarded another helicopter safely."
Trump arrived at his destination about 20 minutes late due to the incident. However, the White House has not officially explained the reason for the delay.
Earlier, while speaking to reporters after the flight, Trump joked that he hoped everyone would get home safely on Air Force One. He added, jokingly, “Fly safely, you know why? Because I’m on this flight. Otherwise, I wouldn’t care.”
Earlier, Trump participated in a joint press conference after meeting with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer. The meeting announced a new technology agreement between the US and the UK, which will help the two countries lead in the field of artificial intelligence (AI). The two leaders also discussed in detail the war in Gaza and the war in Ukraine.
