After a long break due to tensions in the Middle East, an LNG tanker has again crossed the important waterway of Hormuz. This journey after being closed for almost two months is a sign of relief in the international energy market.

According to ship tracking company Kpler, the tanker named ‘Mubarak’ operated by the UAE energy company ADNOC started its journey from Das Island carrying about 132,000 cubic meters of LNG. Although it left in early March, it remained en route for a long time due to security reasons and later resumed its journey.

Analysis has shown that the ship turned off its automatic identification system (AIS) for security reasons in late March. Later, its signal was detected again after reaching the Indian coast. It is believed that it successfully crossed the Strait of Hormuz in mid-April.

Analysts say that shipping traffic on this route had almost stopped due to recent tensions. Earlier, a tanker named ‘Sohar’ had made a limited passage through this route, but it was almost empty. However, the new LNG-carrying ships are indicating that the international energy supply situation is somewhat normalizing.

According to data, more than 70 oil tankers have sailed from the Persian Gulf since the beginning of March, but the movement through the Hormuz route was limited due to security risks. According to experts, if this route is fully operational, stability can return to the global energy market.
