BNP ready to sign July charter: Salahuddin

BNP is ready to sign the July charter at any time, said Salahuddin Ahmed, a member of the party's standing committee. He said that after receiving the charter, BNP responded with some amendments on July 30 and the party has provided maximum cooperation in implementing the charter.
Salahuddin Ahmed said these things at a press conference organized at his residence in Gulshan on Monday (August 4). He said that the July declaration has historical and political importance. BNP had responded to the proposed declaration in February itself and the party was in favor of not presenting the March 26 issue. It is also said that state and constitutional recognition will be given through the Fourth Schedule of the Constitution.
He said that if the amendment proposed by BNP is not accepted, then the party will give its next reaction after reading the declaration. BNP is not obstructing the implementation of the charter, but has provided full cooperation, yet many people say that BNP will not sign it unless it gets assurances—which is not correct.
At the end of the press conference, Salahuddin Ahmed called for maintaining anti-fascist unity so that all parties can move forward towards a collective political solution.
