The government is planning to reduce the annual leave of primary educational institutions. Advisor to the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education, Professor Dr. Bidhan Ranjan Roy Poddar, gave this information at a press conference organized on the occasion of International Literacy Day 2025 on Sunday (September 7).
He said that in the 2025 academic year, the annual leave of primary schools will be 76 days and that of colleges will be 71 days. A plan to reduce the leave has been initiated from the upcoming 2026 academic year. Its main objective is to eliminate the learning deficit created due to the sudden closure of school activities.
Dr. Bidhan Ranjan Roy Poddar said, “We need to see whether enough time is being spent with teachers and students. Only unnecessary leave can be reduced. However, there will be two days of weekly leave. The leave will be coordinated, and keeping teachers busy in extracurricular activities will also be reduced.”
Secretary to the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education, Abu Taher Md. Masud Rana, was present at the press conference. It is learned that the issue of reducing holidays was discussed at a joint meeting of the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education last month.
