Speaker of the National Assembly Major (Retd.) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed has said that the expectations of the people of the country regarding the National Assembly are very high. He said that if this parliament, formed with the sacrifice and blood of the students and the public, fails to fulfill the hopes of the people, it will be a cause of deep disappointment for the nation.
He said these things while speaking as the chief guest at a view exchange meeting with the newly elected committee of the Bangladesh Parliament Journalists Association (BPJA) at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban on Thursday (June 4).
The Speaker said that the media plays an important role in strengthening parliamentary democracy. The responsibility of journalists is to build a bridge between the parliament and the people and to convey accurate information to the people.
He also said that during various political times and regimes of the past, the media has faced various challenges in working independently. However, he mentioned that currently the media is working in a relatively free environment.
BPJA leaders were present at the view exchange meeting. The discussion emphasized the effectiveness of parliament, the role of the government and opposition parties, and mutual cooperation in the country's development progress.
