Hasnat Abdullah, the chief organizer of the National Citizens Party (NCP), has demanded that the Awami League be declared disqualified as a political party and banned.
Participating in a mass communication and leaflet distribution program organized by the NCP at Shahbagh in the capital on Thursday (May 1) evening, he said, "Awami League cannot be a political party in any way. After the mass uprising, this party has lost its function of doing politics. The party must be banned quickly through the judicial process."
He also said, "No one from the Awami League has the opportunity to participate in the elections. The Election Commission after the July mass uprising must play a responsible role. If fascism is tried to be rehabilitated, it will be institutionally prevented."
At that time, NCP leaders and activists raised various slogans against the government and conveyed the party's message to the general public by distributing leaflets.
Meanwhile, the Jatiya Nagorik Party has called for a protest rally at the southern gate of Baitul Mukarram in the capital tomorrow, Friday (May 2) at 3 pm, demanding the trial of the Awami League and a ban on its political activities.
A press release sent by the party said that the protest rally will be held "demanding the trial of the genocidal Awami League and a ban on its political activities." The party's top central leaders will be present. It has been confirmed that the Dhaka Metropolitan NCP will organize the program.
Tension has arisen in the political arena surrounding this statement and program.
