In the wake of the attack on Ganadhikar Parishad President and former DUCSU VP Nurul Haque Nur, the central office of the Jatiya Party (JPA) in Kakrail in the capital was attacked, vandalized and arson. The incident occurred after 6:15 pm on Saturday.
Eyewitnesses said that tension arose when leaders and activists of Ganadhikar Parishad from Bijoynagar and Islami Andolan Bangladesh from Paltan took a procession to the JPA office. After about 15 minutes, the leaders of Ganadhikar Parishad removed the activists. Then, suddenly, some people came from behind and pelted bricks at the JPA office. Later, they vandalized, entered the office and set it on fire. They also set fire to chairs and tables outside.
To bring the situation under control, the police resorted to baton charge and water cannons. They also tried to douse the fire by spraying water. The tense situation prevailed there until 6:40 pm.
Earlier in the afternoon, the party leaders and activists held a protest rally in Bijoynagar to protest the attack on Gana Adhikar Parishad President and former VP of DUCSU, Nurul Haque Nur. After the rally, they took out a procession towards Bijoynagar via Paltan, Press Club, Matsya Bhaban, and Kakrail.
It is worth noting that on Friday (August 29) night, a clash broke out between JPA and Gana Adhikar Parishad in Bijoynagar. In this incident, at least 50 people, including Nurul Haque Nur, General Secretary Rashed Khan, were injured in the police lathicharge. The seriously injured Nur was admitted to DMCH Hospital.
