Jhatra Dal-backed vice-president (VP) candidate Abidul Islam Abid has rejected the results of the Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) election, calling it a 'planned farce'. He made this reaction in a post on social media Facebook on Tuesday (September 9) night.

In the post, posted immediately after the results were announced after the vote counting, Abidul alleged that the election was rigged in a planned manner. In his words—

"I estimated this result of planned rigging just after noon. Set the numbers as you wish. I reject this planned farce."

In the results announced by DUCSU, Shibir-backed Oikayabuddha Student Alliance candidate Md. Abu Sadiq (Sadiq Kayem) won the VP post by getting 14,042 votes. And Jhatra Dal-backed Abidul Islam Khan (Abid) got 5,658 votes.

Abid is reluctant to accept this huge gap in the results. He claims that students were not given the opportunity to exercise their real voting rights. He alleges that the elections have been turned into a farce with the direct support of the administration and the ruling circles.

His Facebook post on this issue has sparked widespread discussion among students. While many have expressed support, some are questioning Abid's allegations, citing the high voter turnout in the elections.

According to analysts, Abid's stance is a reflection of the anger among the Chhatra Dal and other opposition student organizations over the results of the DUCSU elections. On the other hand, whether to call for a movement questioning the electoral process or not has now become a topic of discussion in the academic arena.
