A sensational incident took place at John F. Kennedy (JFK) International Airport in New York, USA. A local Awami League leader Mizanur Rahman threw an egg at Akhtar Hossain, member secretary of the National Citizens Party (NCP). The incident occurred on Monday (September 22) at around 5 pm local time as he was leaving the airport's Terminal 4.
Akhtar Hossain was accompanied by BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and NCP Senior Joint Member Secretary Tasnim Zara, who were accompanying the interim government's chief advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus. Eyewitnesses said that two eggs were thrown in quick succession and they hit Akhtar Hossain directly on the back. However, he walked away without showing any reaction.
Immediately after the incident, local Awami League leaders, activists and supporters started a protest. They hurled insults at Tasnim Zara and started chanting slogans including 'Joy Bangla' while lying down in front of the car. The situation escalated. The New York Police quickly intervened and tried to control the situation.
After the incident, Mirza Fakhrul reacted on his verified Facebook page and wrote, "What happened at the New York airport has once again proven that the Awami League does not regret its wrongdoings at all." He also wrote, "Everything that the Awami League has done till date will be judged by the law. Be patient for the sake of the party and the country."
Later, the New York Police arrested Jubo League activist Mizanur Rahman. He is also accused of stabbing a BNP activist.
