Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer and opposition leader Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has alleged that the government is not paying attention to the people's demand for fundamental changes. He claims that the desired state reform is not possible unless important institutions like the judiciary, the Election Commission, the Anti-Corruption Commission and the Human Rights Commission are independent.

He made these remarks while addressing the session of the Jamaat-e-Islami's Central Majlis-e-Shura at the Moghbazar Al-Falah Auditorium in the capital on Friday morning.

Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said that the people of the country expected a real change after the July mass uprising. Based on the political change that has come at the cost of the sacrifices of many people, it was necessary to make the important institutions of the state independent and effective. But he commented that those fundamental places still remain the same.

He said that it is difficult to consolidate democratic governance in the country without an independent judiciary, an independent Election Commission, an independent Anti-Corruption Commission and an independent Human Rights Commission. He said that if these institutions are weak, abuse of power and autocratic tendencies can rise again.

Regarding the referendum, he said that it is the government's responsibility to implement the opinion given by a large part of the people. He alleged that although political parties said before the election that they would respect the referendum, the people's decision was not properly evaluated later.

Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said that the opposition party has repeatedly raised the demand for the implementation of the referendum in and outside the parliament. The 11-party unity is also running a series of programs on this demand. According to him, this is not the demand of any single party or alliance; rather, it is a question of implementing the verdict of the people.

He also said that the peace and security of the society largely depends on the honesty, accountability and moral standing of those responsible for running the state. He blamed the failure of the governance system for the failure to meet the expectations of the people even after the country became independent.

The Jamaat Amir said that only a change of power is not enough to establish social order, security, employment and justice in the country; There is a need to ensure institutional reforms and good governance.

Central leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami were present at the session.
