Incarcerated Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, spokesperson for the Sanatani Jagaran Jote, has been granted parole for five hours following the death of his mother.
Syed Mahbubul Haque, the Additional District Magistrate of Chattogram, issued this order on Thursday (September 10) afternoon. Prior to this, his family had submitted an application to the Chattogram Deputy Commissioner seeking his release on parole.
Chinmoy's Mother Passes Away
Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari's mother, Sandhya Rani Dhar (72), passed away on Thursday morning at Pundarik Dham in Hathazari, Chattogram.
Upon receiving the news of his mother's death, his family applied for his release on parole to allow him the opportunity to see her one last time.
Chattogram Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Jahidul Islam Miah informed the media that legal measures were taken in response to the application, and Chinmoy's parole request was approved. He has been granted parole for five hours.
Preparations for Release from Prison
Iqbal Hossain, Senior Superintendent of Chattogram Central Jail, stated that they had been informed of the parole order. Chinmoy Krishna Das will be released on parole as soon as they receive the official copy of the order.
The Case Leading to Chinmoy's Arrest
On October 31, 2024, Firoz Khan—then General Secretary of the Mohra Ward unit of the BNP in Chattogram city—filed a sedition case at Kotwali Police Station against 19 individuals, including Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari. The case included allegations of disrespecting the national flag.
Firoz Khan was subsequently expelled from the BNP. Chinmoy Krishna Das was arrested in Dhaka on November 25, 2024, in connection with that case.
The following day, November 26, lawyer Saiful Islam was beaten and hacked to death amidst clashes surrounding the hearing for Chinmoy Krishna Das's bail. Saiful Islam's father, Jamal Uddin, filed a murder case naming 31 individuals in connection with the incident.
