Rajshahi University Central Students' Union (RAKSU) Vice President (VP) and Branch President Mostaqur Rahman Zahid has warned to close the country's leading Bengali daily Prothom Alo and English daily The Daily Star.
He made this comment at a rally held at Rajshahi University after the news of the death of Inqilab Mancha spokesperson Sharif Osman bin Hadi spread last Thursday night.
At the rally, Mostaqur Rahman Zahid said, "We are announcing from this program - Prothom Alo, Daily Star and these civilized newspapers must be closed. If any journalists from Prothom Alo or Daily Star are present at this program, they will leave here immediately."
Earlier, a protest march was held on the Rajshahi University campus after the news of Sharif Osman bin Hadi's death spread. The procession started from Shaheed Shamsujoha Chattar and ended at Saheb Bazar Zero Point in the city via Dhaka-Rajshahi Highway. At that time, the protesters set fire in front of the Awami League office and protested.
At one stage, Raksu General Secretary (GS) Salahuddin Ammar announced to demolish the Awami League office and install public toilets there. Later, the office was demolished with a bulldozer.
At the rally, the Raksu VP also said that the Indian High Commission in Rajshahi should be demolished and that 'Awami fascist teachers' would not be able to take classes at Rajshahi University.
