A BNP leader was allegedly tortured by being drowned in water by Awami League supporters in Madan upazila of Netrokona. On Friday (March 27), the victim's upazila BNP's co-social welfare secretary Mehedi Hasan Akand Shafik filed a written complaint with Madan police station in this incident.
The complaint states that Sohel Mia and his associates ambushed him due to a previous enmity when he went to cut grass in Kandubiya Beel in front of his house. At one stage, it is claimed that they beat him up and tried to drown him in water.
Hearing the victim's screams, local people rushed to rescue him and admitted him to the hospital. He is currently undergoing treatment at the Madan Health Complex.
Four people have been accused in this incident - Sohel Mia, Khayes, Kawsar and Sagar. However, denying the allegations, Sohel Mia said that there was a scuffle over cutting grass on the land, but the allegation of an attempt to kill by drowning is not correct.
The OC of Madan Police Station said that the matter will be investigated and necessary legal action will be taken.
