A mobile court in Kaliganj upazila of Satkhira has sentenced a person to six months in prison for treating patients for a long time by pretending to be a doctor.
He was arrested during a raid at a healthcare center in the Nalta area of the upazila on Monday. Later, the sentence was given after the initial investigation found the allegations true.
The local administration said that the accused had been treating patients using the title 'doctor' before his name without any valid medical certificate. This led to allegations of cheating the common people.
The drive was conducted by the Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate. He said that regular drives against such fake medical activities will continue in the public interest.
There has been widespread discussion in the area over the incident. Locals have welcomed the administration's steps to prevent fraud in the healthcare sector and have demanded that such drives be strengthened further.
